THE POWER OF PINK

National Pink Day is celebrated on June 23 every year, painting the world in shades of pink and celebrating the many facets this color represents. While the exact origins of National Pink Day are shrouded in mystery, what remains clear is pink’s enduring symbolism of femininity, grace and power.

Historically, the term “pink” first emerged in the 14th century as a verb meaning to decorate with a perforated or punched pattern, often using pinking shears on fabric. It was only in the 17th century that
"pink" was first used to describe the color, inspired by the pinken flower from the Netherlands.

Interestingly, pink’s association with femininity is a relatively new concept. In the early 20th century, pink was considered a masculine color while blue was seen as dainty and more appropriate for girls. This was partly because English men wore red uniforms, and young boys would be dressed in the softer shade of red. Today, pink is a color for everyone, transcending gender norms and stereotypes.

Celebrate National Pink Day by donning a pink attire, gifting pink flowers and reveling in the brightness and tenderness this color brings.
