DRESSING FOR YOUR BODY SHAPE

Women come in all colors, ages, shapes and sizes. This week, we revisit the most common body types and reveal tips on how you can look and feel great no matter which body type you have.

Pear Shaped Body Type
aka a Triangle.

People who have a built that’s heavier on the bottom fall under the category of the Pear Shaped Body. The heavier bottom in relation to the upper half of the body creates a somewhat imbalance of sorts. But that’s nothing a good outfit can’t fix!

To counter the imbalance, we can attempt to draw the attention towards the upper body rather than on the wider hips. Defining the waist can also balance the silhouette and create an illusion of an hourglass figure.

Style Tip: Puff sleeves are great accents to help balance the silhouette.

Hourglass Shaped Body Type
aka a Figure 8

Women with an hourglass body shape are considered quite lucky. The natural balance of these types is accentuated with a defined waist. The key here is to choose clothes that maintain the natural balance rather than disrupt it. Clothes that highlight the figure in the right proportions are highly recommended.

Style Tip: Don’t be afraid to flaunt your hourglass figure with bodycon or fitted dresses.

Apple Shaped Body Type
aka an Inverted Triangle

The opposite of a pear-shaped body is the apple-shaped one. People who have this body type may have a fuller chest but flatter bottom. To counter this imbalance, one can opt for clothes that add curves and volume to the lower body. Defining the waist can also be a good trick to create an optical illusion of a more balanced body.

Style Tip: Fuller skirts and peplum tops are your best friends

Straight Body Type
aka a Rectangle

This body type may be considered boyish but don’t forget, this is also the body type of a lot of professional models. Proportion is present and balanced but with least curves. It is crucial to define the waist to break the straightness.

Style Tip: A-line dresses with waist details can do wonders for straight bodies. So does a tuck-in blouse and pants.

At the end of the day, there’s an outfit for anyone and everyone. Every body is gorgeous in its own way. Despite what body shape you may have, remember that you do not need to keep yourself in a box. You can feel free to be yourself and be confident in your own skin.
