2023 STYLE RESOLUTIONS
When it comes to resolutions, setting a high bar is admirable, but can have toxic consequences if you fall at the first hurdle. Let’s be kinder to ourselves this year and set some 2023 fashion resolutions that are worth focusing on and are realistic and attainable at the same time.
From holding on to old clothes that never get worn to panic-buying pieces that won’t have more than one outing, we are guilty of making less than sensible decisions when it comes to our wardrobes. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Below, we break down 5 closet resolutions to get you started with for the year ahead.
1. Don’t buy something for just one occasion.
We’re all guilty of this. A wedding, birthday party, reunion with friends―heading somewhere exciting means we inevitably feel like we need something new and special to wear. Instead of purchasing something specific for certain events, try to have a few dressier pieces in your wardrobe that are more versatile. If you go for something simple and more classic, you’ll be able to wear it again and again. Accessorized cleverly, it will never feel like the same look.
2. Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale
It’s easy to be won over by a big discount, and you should make the most of huge markdowns―but only if that piece is something that you really need to add to your arsenal. No matter how affordable it is, if you’ll never wear it, yup it’s a complete waste of money.
3. When you buy something, declutter something else.
An excellent way to keep you wardrobe at a sensible size is to adopt a “one-in, one-out” policy. Every time you add something new, take a piece out (sell it, or even donate to charity).
4. Know your style.
Don’t be afraid to make the most of your instinct of what suits you. Own your own style, keep it simple, know what you look good in and have a fashion compass when choosing for new outfits.
Build a capsule wardrobe.
To be truly stylish does not take a huge budget―you don’t need a lot to look good. Just buy what you need, what makes you feel great, collect pieces that can serve you from one season to another, and hold on to nothing more.
The good thing about style resolutions? We can always try again. 2023 has only just started, and when it comes to your wardrobe, there is more than enough time to figure out what should stay, and what should go.
